More information about my great grandfather, John Snowling.
The person who originally wrote in to the ancestry.co.uk message boards with information about the sinking of John Snowling's ship in 1917 wrote back to give some information from the Commonwealth War Grave Commission's web site. There is a record in their database for John Snowling, with the information that he is commemorated at the Tower Hill Memorial in London.
Here is John Snowling's record in the CWGC's database. You can download a nice certificate from this record.
Searching in the CWGC site I found another relative who died in the second world war. He is Harry Snowling from South Shields, who is a grandson of John Snowling (thus, Pamela Snowling's first cousin.) He was shot down over Germany in 1944. I'm not sure if I remember hearing about him from Pam; does anyone else have a memory of this?

Well, no, she never mentioned him to me. :)
I'm impressed that the war graves commission site has so much detail (especially about next of kin).
